IELTS exam preparation

IELTS exam preparation

It is very difficult for many people to prepare for their IELTS exam. I personally feel that people stress themselves out for no reason. IELTS preparation is not a very difficult task if you do some planning prior to starting it.

I am going to give you 5 simple steps to prepare for your IELTS exam.

English grammar

Buy an English grammar book because you are going to need it. You should revise your English grammar effectively before you even think of opening your IELTS book. Most of the people do not get a good IELTS score because their English grammar is weak. Most of you would be reluctant to revise these because you would regard this act as childish, but believe me it’s worth it.

Buy an IELTS book

The next step is to buy the IELTS book. I highly recommend my students to buy the Barron’s book for IELTS. I would like to clarify that Barron is not paying me money to recommend this book. Another good book you could buy is 4M. After buying the book you should read the book to determine whether you need IELTS tuition or not. If you feel that you need more help then you should take admission in an IELTS academy.

Plan and complete the course

Give yourself at least 2 months to prepare for the exam. You will be tested on 4 modules, so you will have to improve yourself in all 4 modules. The IELTS book will familiarize you with the exam pattern and the types of questions which might come on the exam. You should divide your time equally among the 4 modules. If you are weak in one of the module then you should give extra and effort for that particular module.  Complete your whole IELTS course.

Tips and techniques

You should read the tips and techniques after you have finished the whole course. I have seen people who took their IELTS exam by just reading the tips, and those people were unable to get even a band 4. These tips and techniques are important, but they are only going to benefit you if your English is good. If your Basic English is weak then there is no point of reading or applying these tips.

Modal tests

You should spend the last 15 days before the exam in practicing the IELTS modal tests. Modal tests follow the pattern of the real IELTS exam, and they give you a rough idea of how the exam might look. You should also time yourself on each module; this is the perfect way to manage your time in the real IELTS exam.
