Past perfect tense rules and application

 

Sentence: I eat food.

In the above sentence I is the subject, eat is the verb and food is the object.

1st form of verb: eat, 2nd form of verb: ate, 3rd form of verb: eaten

Positive sentence

(I, He, She, It, We, They, You) as a subject

Subject+ had + 3rd form of verb + object

 

I had eaten food.

He had eaten food.

She had eaten food.

It had eaten food.

We had eaten food.

They had eaten food.

You had eaten food.

 

 

 

Negative sentence

(I, He, She, It, We, They, You) as a subject

Subject + had + not + 3rd form of verb + object

 

I had not eaten food.

He had not eaten food.

She had not eaten food.

It had not eaten food.

We had not eaten food.

They had not eaten food.

You had not eaten food.

 

 

 

Interrogative sentence

(I, He, She, It, We, They, You) as a subject

Had + subject + 3rd form of verb + object

 

Had I eaten food?

Had he eaten food?

Had she eaten food?

Had it eaten food?

Had we eaten food?

Had they eaten food?

Had you eaten food?
